About the Association
Library, Archives & Research Requests
A wealth of resources for those researching family and local history — from county families and businesses to western North Carolina and state history.
The library and archives cover Catawba County families, government, organizations, religion, education, businesses, and military, as well as western North Carolina and overall state history. Bound volumes of the Hickory Daily Record and the Hickory News are available, as are yearbooks from local colleges, high schools, and elementary schools.
In the archives, an extensive assembly of files on county families includes the Edith Warren Huggins Collection. Catawba County towns, cities, historic sites, events, and personalities are well represented in the photograph collection, and surveys of many historic houses and sites are held in the National Register files.
The Association provides limited assistance with research requests, and maintains an extensive Family & Genealogy Research Library you may schedule to visit and use on your own. Please call (828) 465-0383 to schedule use of the Family Genealogy & Archive Room at least two weeks in advance.

Before you request
- Requests are taken first-come, first-served and processed as staff availability allows. You’ll be contacted to make arrangements upon your initial inquiry.
- Specify a time limit in hour increments (1 hour minimum, 10 hours maximum). Special arrangements are required for more than 10 hours.
- There is a $25.00 per hour fee, paid in advance once a timeframe and number of hours are agreed. Make checks payable to the Catawba County Historical Association, or pay by Visa or MasterCard by phone.

- Results are sent by email. Physical copies are welcome but cost an additional $0.50 per page plus shipping.
