The Catawba County History Museum on the courthouse square in Newton will host the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibit Services (SITES) exhibit The Way We Worked, August 10 to September 18, 2018.
This exhibit explores how work became such a central element in American culture by tracing the many changes that affected the workforce and work environments over the past 150 years.
As one of only six sites selected by the North Carolina Humanities Council (NCHC) Museum on Main Street (MoMS) program, the Historical Association of Catawba County is proud to welcome the Smithsonian into our shared community.
The only requirement is that host institutions supplement the SITES exhibit with a local, parallel narrative, in this case – Catawba: Innovation at Work, which will highlight the history of five industries: furniture, ceramics, textiles, agriculture, and fiber optics.
Sponsorship dollars and in-kind services will:
- Allow the Historical Association to host extended hours during the exhibit’s 6 week run
- Enable all school groups that book in advance to tour for free
- Support the volunteer base who serve as docents with meals
- Underwrite advertising to fuel tourism into and within Catawba County
Please consider supporting this once in a lifetime opportunity to offer residents of the Western Piedmont a Smithsonian-quality experience as a local sponsor.
